MOTS-C 20mg Pen

MOTS-C (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a 16 amino acid peptide encoded inside the mitochondrial genome itself. It was discovered in 2015 by a team at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and is one of the first identified mitochondria-derived peptides (MDPs): small signalling peptides the mitochondria send out to the rest of the cell and to peripheral tissues when energy status changes. MOTS-C is widely described in the published literature as an 'exercise mimetic' peptide because the AMPK pathway it activates is the same pathway exercise activates. MOTS-C is one of the first identified mitochondrial-derived peptides and the most-studied. The published mechanism work spans cell, animal, and early human research. Three pathways come up repeatedly:

AMPK activation (the master energy switch)

MOTS-C is reported to activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), the cellular sensor that turns on energy-producing pathways when the cell senses low energy. AMPK activation is the same downstream effect that exercise, fasting, and metformin all trigger. It increases glucose uptake into muscle, switches the body toward fat oxidation, and improves insulin sensitivity.

Glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity

Animal-model studies have reported that MOTS-C increases glucose uptake into skeletal muscle independently of insulin, reverses high-fat-diet-induced insulin resistance, and improves glucose tolerance in metabolically stressed animals. This is the basis for using it inside metabolic-health and body-composition protocols.

Exercise mimetic effects

MOTS-C levels rise naturally in response to exercise and metabolic stress.
